THE GAME

This game helps you measure and reduce your dependence on US tech giants. In today's digital world, our reliance on American technology has become overwhelming, creating potential risks for privacy, financial independence, and even democratic processes.

This tool was inspired by the article "Mini-game: Reducing my dependence on American tech giants".

The goal isn't to achieve zero dependence, but rather to find a healthy balance by measuring your current situation and identifying areas for improvement.

TECH DEPENDENCY INDEX

The TDI measures your technological dependence on US services using the formula from the article listed above.

FORMULA:

FI + SI + (II × 1.5) + (if FI > 0 then II × FI)

WHERE:

FI = FINANCIAL IMPACT

SI = SENSITIVITY IMPACT

II = INFLUENCE IMPACT

Your TDI score is calculated as the percentage of your US service scores compared to all services: TDI = (Sum of US service scores × 100) ÷ (Sum of all service scores)

UNDERSTANDING THE SCORES

FINANCIAL IMPACT (0-2)

OBJECTIVE: This score measures how our finances support tech ecosystem development. High scores for paid US services indicate financial support flowing to US tech giants rather than funding European alternatives.

  • 0: Free service (no financial contribution)
  • 1: Non-essential paid service (convenient but replaceable)
  • 2: Critical paid service (dependent on it, needs regional alternative)

SENSITIVITY IMPACT (0-2)

  • 0: No data provided
  • 1: Minimal data provided (only necessary for service)
  • 2: Lots of sensitive data provided (affects privacy)

INFLUENCE IMPACT (0-3)

  • 0: No influence (service has no effect on your decisions or opinions)
  • 1: Subtle influence (general, non-targeted advertising or content)
  • 2: Significant potential influence (personalized content, targeted recommendations)
  • 3: Proven major influence (documented cases of opinion manipulation or behavioral change)
